National University founded on August 1, 1900 by Don Mariano Fortunato Jhocson.  National University was hailed as the first private non sectarian school in the Philippines with its mission by providing education for deserving Filipino students.

In the year 2008 SM Group of Companies acquired majority ownership of the National University.
